Did My Reset Work?

So I stumbled. So what.

It was expected at some point. Maybe not so early, but at some point. Getting it out the way early isn’t so bad, smooth sailing from here. I mean I’ll only trip up once…right?

It did trigger a thought though – did my 7 Day Reset actually work? I spent quite a number of hours developing that reset, it’d be a shame if it didn’t work. Well, the proof is in the pudding.

That means it failed, right? Cause I tripped up early?

Fuck no, it actually worked the way it should. It helped me identify some early habits to change, and gave me easily sustainable improvements that I have kept. I may not have done perfect, or by some standards even well, last week, but I did something. I achieved somethings. Things I could have turned from. Walks I could have excused myself from.

That’s the intent of the 7 Day Reset. Even I have to remember, as the auteur of this site, that you can’t change the world in 7 days. You can’t even change your whole life in 7 days. But you can give yourself some easy wins. You can prove that easy wins help.

Of course being so ill from eating that you throw up helps avoiding certain food styles.

However, beyond that, there’s a feeling of “want to change”. Not the “dream of changing” that we often do, but an increased “want”. It’s actually hard to describe, it’s certainly motivation, which won’t last, so I am trying during this wave of desire to build underneath it discipline to meet my standards.

I feel like I’ve been the bee at the window. You know the one. Buzzes up and down, slams against the glass to get to the beautiful outside. As soon as you open the window though, I fuck off elsewhere and continue to buzz around the house. Where it’s safe. well screw that, I’m flying out the window this time.

This doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t have a moment, and just a moment, of self reflection on why I tripped so early. What was it that I was missing?

My guess today, as my fingers create a melodic tapping on the keyboard, is a lack of ongoing structure. Structure is habit, I have it for work, amongst other things. It’s almost an autopilot to carry out certain activities without prompting. Oh shit, that’s a habit isn’t it. So how long does it take to form a habit?

Google that and step back in wonder of the range of advise. Anything from 21 days to 254? Fuck me. One is too short, the other is far too long. Might as well give up, it’s never going to happen.

Actually…

If I can force structure into my life for a short-ish period of time, maybe it can bed in and become a habit. This of course, is my long winded way of saying…

After my 7 Day Reset I had created some positive momentum, but the tracks were on shaky ground. To strengthen those tracks, I am developing a 6 week course (name pending a brainstorming session and a book of puns as inspiration) to pin onto the 7 Day Reset. Not everyone needs that, but I think I do. The next few weeks will be developing and documenting what I think that course should contain. Then, I’m going to test it. On myself. I am my own lab rat.

And I’m quite excited. So excited I’m running ahead of myself. I need to keep the vision though, and not rush. If I get this right, it really could be the big step I’ve been looking for.

This bee is stepping free.
